Why eBay keyword research is its own discipline
eBay search isn't Amazon search. eBay's Cassini algorithm is title-heavy and exact- match-sensitive. Buyers type queries like "nike air max 90 size 10 white new" — full sentences with brand, model, attribute, condition all in one string. If your title doesn't contain those exact tokens, you don't rank for the query.
That means eBay keyword research is structurally different from other marketplaces. You're not just looking for high-volume head terms — you're looking for the specific attribute combinations buyers add to their search. A "buyer-ready" phrase on eBay usually contains 4-6 tokens including condition; a "research" phrase is shorter and broader.
Use the title-fit score to prioritize. eBay titles are 80 characters, so you can fit maybe 4-6 distinct keyword phrases. Pick the highest title-fit scores that don't overlap on root tokens. Dump the rest into item specifics — Cassini indexes them too, and item specifics are surfaced as filter chips for buyers.
